Lucky Philip Dube was a South African reggae musician and Rastafarian. He recorded 22 albums in Zulu, English and Afrikaans in a 25-year period and was South Africa’s biggest-selling reggae artist. Dube was murdered in the Johannesburg suburb of Rosettenville on the evening of 18 October 2007.
Different Colours, One People is one of the greatest hits from the camp of Dube, it appears on the album Victims (1993) and on the album Serious Reggae Business (1996). The song addresses the issue of racism and discrimination against people of various race or descent, emphasizing that though we may have different skin tones or skin color, we are all one people.
