WETAYA SONG OF THE DAY: Dua Lipa – Break My Heart

“Break My Heart” is a song by English singer Dua Lipa. It was released on 25 March 2020 through Warner Records as the third single from her second studio album, Future Nostalgia (2020), and impacted contemporary hit radio on 31 March 2020 as the second US single from the album. The song was written by Lipa, Alexandra Tamposi and its producers the Monsters & Strangerz and Andrew Watt. It interpolates the melody from “Need You Tonight” (1987) by INXS, thus Michael Hutchence and Andrew Farriss are also credited as songwriters. “Break My Heart” is a dance-pop and disco song that contains elements of funk. A vulnerable song, it sees Lipa being unable to resist the temptation of a new love.

“Break My Heart” debuted at number six on the UK Singles Chart and at number 21 on the US Billboard Hot 100, Lipa’s highest debut on the chart. It has reached number one in Israel and the top ten in twelve additional countries. The accompanying 1990s-inspired music video was directed by Henry Scholfield and released on 26 March 2020. Lipa has promoted the single with televised live performances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Big Brother Brasil 20 and ABC’s Graduate Together.
