Over 800 Ghanaian prisoners pardoned amid coronavirus pandemic

Following the footsteps of some Prisons and State officials in the US, the president of Ghana, H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo has released or pardoned over 800 inmates. This is a move that most countries are taking to ease congestion in various prisons so as to curb or control the spread of the coronavirus.
A statement from the Prisons Service on Thursday said the President exercised his powers under Article 72 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State. The freed prisoners range from first time offenders, seriously ill inmates, very old prisoners among others.
