On this day July 19, 1799, French cyclist Maurice Garin wins the first ever Tour de France

French bicyclist Maurice Garin won the first Tour de France, which covered 2,428 km (1,508 miles).

Garin, a French road bicycle racer, won the Tour de France in 1903, the first year it was run.
