France’s Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons for 2019/2020 cancelled

The French Prime Minister, Édouard Philippe, has demanded that no top-flight football be played until August at the earliest. There will be no sporting events, even behind closed doors, before August. Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 wanted to train again in May and play again in June. Won’t happen.

French government has made it clear that no football will be played until August, signalling the end of the 2019/20  Ligue 1 & Ligue 2 campaign.

RMC report that the LFP will meet next month to discuss ramifications for promotion/relegation/Europe.

A decision is yet to be made regarding the formalities – Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 champions, promotion, relegation, who qualifies for Europe etc.

A meeting is set to take place in May to make this decision on the above.

Ligue 1 (pending decision) – Paris Saint-Germain champions, Marseille and Stade Rennais qualify for the Champions League, LOSC qualify for the Europa League.

Toulouse and Amiens relegated, Nîmes in the relegation playoff spot.

Ligue 2 – Lorient champions, Lens automatically promoted, Ajaccio, Troyes and Clermont in position to compete for promotion playoff.

Orléans and Le Mans relegated, Chamois in the relegation playoff.
