Egypt’s Health Ministry confirms first coronavirus case in AFRICA

EGYPT becomes the first country in Africa to announce the first confirmed case of the deadly coronavirus that emerged from China late last year, which has since spread and killed more people than the SARS epidemic in China in 2003.

Khaled Mugahed, Egypt’s Health Ministry spokesman confirmed in a statement on Friday the 14th of February, that the affected person was a “foreigner”.

Egyptian officials were able to confirm the case through a mandatory initiative implemented by the Egyptian government for travellers arriving from countries where confirmed cases of the virus has been reported.

The “foreigner” has since been hospitalized and quarantined as health officials monitor the situation. The nationality of the foreigner is yet to be disclosed by the Egyptian government.
